This painting shares a similar story to my previous 'As time passes' piece. It represents family and purpose. The 5 meeting places connected on the right represent the 5 generations of my bloodline passed over. The main meeting place represents those left with us. They are divided by a line through the centre. One side past and one side present but both sides always with me.
Wiradjuri people used the banksia for many reasons. When in flower it was soaked in water to make a sweet tea. The wood of the banksia tree was used to make small hand tools and after flowering the dried cone and its fibres were used to strain water. Each stage of the banksias’ life has another purpose- just as our past does.
