The centre piece represents the sun- our giver of life, bringing the two banksias to flower. The growing Banksias represent a special bond. We grow together alongside Country from all she gives us. I am always inspired by how our mob use Country- everything being useful & having purpose. I use Banksias as a symbol of purpose and growth.
When in flower Wiradjuri people soaked Banksias in water to make sweet tea. The wood of the banksia tree was used to make small hand tools and the dried cone and its fibres were used to strain water. The dried banksia cone was also used to carry fire between camps with the clay detail throughout the pink section representing fire.
